Wierwille in church. Mrs. Kipp (Mrs. Wierwille’s mother) as a matter of respect during the church service, required her children to sit still and be quiet, while Dr. Wierwille’s mother would entertain the children (her own and others’) with soda crackers conveniently stashed in a second purse. And so the young Dorothea made her first acquaintance with the Wierwille family. Much later, a girlfriend of Mrs. Wierwille’s invited her on an outing to Fort Wayne, Indiana. The girls were to accompany a three-piece band—as dates. One of the players in the band was none other than Dr. Wierwille! By the time Mrs. Wierwille graduated from nurses’ training in 1937, the couple were “pinned,” and marriage soon followed in July of that year.
