God's Word in Agriculture: Godly Gardening Techniques

God's Word in Culture Series: God's Word in Agriculture

The God's Word in Culture Series presents teachings centered on the reality of Christ within being lived and manifested in every area of life. When God's Word lives within the innermost fibers of our being, it becomes part of our breath, our walk, our talk, our work, and the way we live in the world around us.

Christ within is the spiritual reality of the new birth; forming Christ in our lives is the daily work of bringing our thoughts and actions into alignment with God's Word. As we make that Word our own and choose to live it, what God has placed within begins to be seen without. Our occupations, abilities, interests, homes, communities, and relationships become opportunities to serve and to manifest the Christ within.

Imagine the impact of a community of believers living this way: God's Word manifested in agriculture, business, music, literature, education, the arts, the home, and every other walk of life. Each believer faithfully serving where he or she stands, not merely knowing God's Word, but doing God's Word in that field.

The first collection in the God's Word in Culture Series turns to organic gardening and agriculture. In these four teachings, Ira Hearne states the heart of the series simply: “I'm trying to do God's Word in that field. That's all.”

Through the practical work of cultivating the soil, planting, tending, harvesting, and believing God for the increase, these teachings demonstrate how God's Word can move beyond what we know into what we live. The principles reach far beyond the garden. They challenge us to take what God has given us, make it our own, and apply His Word in every aspect of life.

What would a culture look like if believers did God's Word in their field? In agriculture. In business. In music. In literature. In education. In the home. Wherever we live, work, create, serve, and give.

That is the vision of God's Word in Culture: believers forming Christ in their lives day by day, until the reality of Christ within can be seen in the life lived without.

PMA is actively adding more teachings to the Preserve and Make Available collection on Archive.org. A former student who worked under Hearne beginning in 1977 described him as “one of the foremost organic gardening experts in America” and credits him with teaching the principle of growing food by “serving the soil.”

Hearne's practical experience encompassed much more than a backyard garden. The agricultural work included a six-acre garden producing crops from asparagus to zucchini, an herb garden, approximately thirty beehives, an orchard, chickens, goats, and cattle.

In these preserved teachings, Hearne draws upon his years of practical experience to teach agriculture from the perspective of God's Word. He discusses building and restoring soil, growing food organically, seed preservation, planting and harvesting, companion planting, natural pest control, and stewardship of the land. Central to his teaching is the Biblical principle of serving and preserving the ground, doing one's part while recognizing that God gives the increase

Our Mission

To preserve and make available the teachings of the Great Mystery so that, with Christ as the head of the Body, God is glorified and His Word is proclaimed and may sound forth throughout all peoples and places.

PMA is actively adding more teachings to the Preserve and Make Available collection on Archive.org.
