Now verse 25, in King James reads: Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for her. ' It' is the King James. ' Even as Christ also,' those words, in the same manner which or in the same manner that Christ loved the Church... the bride, as he loves the Body. ' Loved the Church and gave himself for it' is the figure of speech hendiadys , in both Greek and Aramaic, where two verbs are given instead of the combined idea of a verb and an adverb. Literally it means ' he lovingly gave himself for the Church.' Our literal according to usage of this verse 25 is as follows: Husbands .. .parenthesis now ... (Husbands love your wives like Christ loved the Church ((of the bride)), yes, even giving up himself for it ((her)). The expanded one: Husbands lovingly love your wives even as also Christ in his manner loved his bride the church and gave up himself, laid down his life, died for the church of the bride, Israel. Verse 26 in King James reads: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word. I explained to you that ' washing of water' earlier. See, even scholars like F. F. Bruce from England and Robertson from the United States, all prefer, both of those men prefer the word ' washing ' and not the word ' laver.' Vincent and Wuest and some of those prefer the word ' laver,' and Simpson. But Bruce, I think he was from Manchester; I went to visit him once. And Robinson, I think he' s from Louisville, the Greek scholar. Because both of them say ' if it referred to laver, it would necessitate a different form of the word.' Now the literal according to usage of verse 26 is as follows: That he might set it, her, apart and make it pure with no added mixture by being bathed with water even the Word. The expanded one of verse 26 is: In order that he would set it, her, apart in all purity by cleansing it, her, from any and all impurity with or by the washing of the water of the Word. reflections. But, that's not earth shaking right now in my heart. You see, in some Eastern culture, it was not considered a sin or a shame to steal because that's the way they lived, the only way they lived. Somebody told me... or not only told me, one of our people, but it was in a national magazine, that the basic culture of Russia today is to steal. And in some respects I can understand this. If you don't have anything and you're starving to death and there' s a loaf of bread you can get a hold of... steal the dam thing. I understand that. So this verse is really sharp, really sharp. Let him who stole, even though that man previously considered it the way to live and there was no shame in it, no sin in it. He said, Well, let that fellow who stole, steal no more.
