CONTEXT- Prayer- Be Diligent, Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth vs. Erring Concerning the Truth 2 Timothy 2:1-26 1 You therefore, my child, be strong [infused with inner strength] in the grace which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Entrust the things concerning the deposit, which you have heard from me through many witnesses, to faithful men who shall also be competent to teach others. 3 Endure [unavoidable] evil together with me as a good worker of Jesus Christ. 4 No one who labors gets himself entangled with the things of the world [which interfere with his work], so that he may please the one who chose him [to labor]. 5 If anyone competes in the games, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer has the right to receive the fruits of his harvest first. 7 Think about it [selah]. The Lord shall give you understanding in all things. 8 Remember: Jesus Christ raised out from among the dead out of the seed of David according to the gospel I proclaim, 9 for which I endure evil, even to the end of being chained like a criminal; but the Word of God is not chained. 10 For this reason I endure all things for the called out [of God] that they may hit the mark with respect to the wholeness which is in Christ Jesus with, eternal glory— 11 The Word is faithful—for if we died together with him, we shall live together with him also. 12 If we endure these things, we shall reign as kings together with him also. If we should deny him [in practice], he will deny us [our rewards] also. 13 If we are unfaithful, yet he shall remain faithful. He cannot deny himself. 14 Keep reminding them of these things, charging them before God not to engage in useless disputes [word battles], which undermine and subvert those who listen. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved before God, as a worker who has no cause to be ashamed [of his workmanship], rightly dividing the Word of Truth. 16 Avoid profane and empty discussions.
